Santa Lucia´s Day
This Holiday is most celebrated in the nordic located, the Scandinavian countries like Norway but probably most in Sweden. And although we don´t celebrate this Holiday here in Germany, I was a bit curious to know more about st. Lucia´s Day.
So, I have searched in the internet and found out some interresting facts.
Christmas in Sweden begins on December 13th, the feast day of Santa Lucia, the bringer of light and patron saint of vision.Lucia was known to bring food and supplies to persecuted Christians hiding in the underground, wearing a wreath of candles on her head to light the way. Lucia wanted to stay unmarried wanting to dedicate her life helping others.
Before the gregorian calender reformed, St.Lucia´s Day fell on the winter solistice, the shortes and darkest day of the year in Sweden. Today the Swedes still honoring Lucia as a virtual bride bringing joyful light in their winterdays. And I have also read, that the people start celebrating St.Lucia´s Day in the morning, a daughter in the house is dressed in a white robe and delivers Lussekatter  (Lucia bred) and coffee to her parents.
